Until recently, breakfast was the one meal that I often over looked. I would skip breakfast and try to make it through to lunch without chomping down on sugary biscuits. Busy city living means that most of us are rushing out of the door in the early hours of the morning, grabbing a coffee en route, sitting through our morning meetings (stomachs rumbling) and hoping that the coffee will get us through until lunch time. This is a big mistake (one a lot of us make). Breakfast is the most important meal, one we should defiantly not be skipping. It breaks the fasting period you have had during the night and replenishes your supply of glucose. Breakfast provides you with essential nutrients to keep up your energy levels throughout the day.
It is really important that we have a substantial breakfast packed with nutrients. In general, a healthy breakfast should contain protein, fruits, whole grains, or vegetables.
One of my favourite breakfasts is a quick and easy smoothie bowl, loaded with fruits and vegetables. They are incredibly tasty and a great source of fibre, protein, healthy fats and carbohydrates.
Berries are loaded with antioxidants as well as being a great source of vitamin k. Kale is another super food, rich in vitamins and minerals. This super easy nutritious smoothie is the perfect breakfast to set your body up for the day.
1 cup frozen mixed berries
1/2 cup kale
1 cup sheep’s yogurt or coconut yogurt
Throw all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.
Pour in to a bowl and top with fruit and seeds
