Where to go if you are a non drinker in London

Whether you would just like to give dry January a go or you have decided to bin the booze for good there is no need to miss out on all the fun. Many bars in London now cater for non-drinkers. If you are looking for a great night out without the hangover look no further. These bars and restaurants offer a wide range of alcohol free drinks so that you no longer have to settle for soda water.

Ella Canta – Mayfair

Inspired by Mexican artist Frida Kahalo this lively, fun and gorgeously decorated Mexican bar in Mayfair offers some delicious aguas frescas (non-alcoholic beverages). The drinks are all beautifully presented, the service is outstanding and the food extremely tasty. I could not get enough of the guacamole. The best I have ever tasted.

The drinks will set you back £7 and if you are feeling peckish an appetiser will cost around £8. The beautiful decor, ambience and attention to detail make this authentic Mexican restaurant a must visit.

The Ivy Chelsea Garden – Chelsea

The Ivy Chelsea Garden has to be my favourite “go to” restaurant in London. Located not far from my home on the Kings Road the Ivy offers relaxed yet sophisticated all day dining. The vibrant restaurant is beautifully decorated and there is a real buzz when you walk in. During the summer months, the garden is usually busy but my advice would be to try to get a table outside. In the colder months, the garden also transforms in to a cosy winter garden with flickering candles and cosy rugs to keep you warm.

The Ivy is famous for its modern take on delicious British comfort food. My favourite meal is the Tuna Carpaccio followed by their famous shepherd’s pie. To wash down your meal they offer a good selection of non-alcoholic drinks that they call coolers. The Ivy set cooler is yummy and extremely refreshing and the vanilla spiced sour is incredible

The non-alcoholic drinks are reasonably priced between £4 and £6 and a main meal will cost on average around £17.

34 Mayfair.

If you are looking for a real treat then you must head to 34 Mayfair. I stumbled across this place on the way home from the office and after reading some great reviews decided to book to celebrate my 6 months of sobriety. Set just off Grosvenor square this classy restaurant offers amazing food and delicious drinks. Prices are a little high at £9 a mocktail so this is the place to go when you have something to celebrate.

There was an amazing jazz band playing during our visit which made our evening extra special.

The Caribbean cup – my drink of choice was divine. One of the best cocktails I have ever had and that includes back in my drinking days.

The Book Club – Shoreditch.

This quirky bar is great for those looking for some great cocktails without the booze. The book club is very hipster and drinking or not drinking you cannot help but feel like one of the cool kids.

I went here for a friend’s birthday expecting to be stuck drinking vodka lime and soda but was happy to find they had a zero proof cocktail menu. Prices were not bad with mocktails priced at £5.   Although skeptical, I went for the espresso beets martini it was actually delicious and something I will order again.  I ended up having a brilliant night dancing till the early hours to 90s hip hop.

Sexy Fish – Mayfair

Sexy fish is known for being one of Mayfair’s coolest hangouts. I decided to give this place a whirl for my 30thbirthday cocktails. Although I haven’t missed a lot about not drinking I do sometimes miss the excuse to get dolled up and head out to a bar. This place is perfect for a more glamorous evening. Blow dry your hair, put on your sexiest dress and add your highest heels.

The sexy fish bar is exactly what you might expect vibrant, opulent and completely over the top. Tacky enough to be the perfect place for a girls night.  The non-alcoholic cocktails are a real treat for the taste buds.

Eclipse- South Kensington

This tiny little cocktail bar in Chelsea holds a very special place in my heart. It was the bar I went to on my first night living in London.  Even though over the years my vibe is very different and I prefer a night in a cosy pub rather than a swanky bar I like to pay this place a visit from time to time.

Tucked away behind Brompton road on Walton Street, Eclipse offers some classic cocktails at a reasonable price of £5.50. If you fancy something different, go for the Melon Nova. Fruity and refreshing with a sharp twist.

Alto by San Carlo – Selfridges

I love Italian food, but one thing I have found hard is finding a good Italian restaurant that offers more than sparkling water as an alternative to wine. I recently discovered Alto, Selfridge’s new rooftop restaurant. Take the lift next to the ground floor Chanel counter up to the top floor where you will be met by the front of house staff.

Alto is an Italian restaurant offering lots of small chicetti style plates for sharing. Think of it like an Italian Tapas bar. The menu is vast offering plenty of mouth-watering dishes from seafood to pasta. What makes this place even more enjoyable is the beautifully presented alcohol free cocktails that the bar staff will more than happily make for you.

Dandelyan- South Bank.

Nothing beats a sunny afternoon strolling along the Southbank.  Head to the food market grab some paella and sit watching the skaters. For the perfect end to the perfect day, grab an early evening mocktail at my favorite London bar, Dandelyan.

Dandelyon is a multi-award winning cocktail bar in the Mondrian hotel offering an impressive selection of imaginative cocktails. This art deco space is the perfect place to relax and unwind and the stunning decor makes for some great insta pics.

Redemption Bar – Notting Hill

If you are looking for a great restaurant that offers great food and a buzzing atmosphere then look no further than redemption bar. The restaurant is completely alcohol free meaning you can have a great night out without the temptation or annoying comments. All of the food is ethically sourced and they have plenty of vegan and gluten free options.

They offer so many different cocktails and you will want to try them all. Start the evening with a glass of rosemary and pomegranate fizz then get slushy with the frozen strawberry rose daiquiri Yum- ee!

City Garden Bar- Sky Garden

If you are looking for an all-day drinking and dining space that offers incredible 360 degree views of London then this is the place for you. Perfect if you have visitors or have a date and would like to show off. Spend the evening looking over Tower Bridge, the Shard and the Thames. The view is jaw dropping.

Pre booking will avoid queues and is free of charge. The cocktails are a little on the expensive side but the panoramic views make them well worth the money.
